Bill Cawthon accepts photo from Orlando Rivero

Old Friends

Bill Cawthon accepts a photograph as a present from Orlando Rivero. Bill met Orlando in the Phillipines during World War II. At the time Bill was 18 and Orlando was 12 years old. Bill was a US Marine and Orlando was a young boy who wanted to be a guerrilla fighter. When the War ended, Bill went with the US Marines to Peking China to accept the surrender of the Japanese and help them to return to Japan safely. Later, Bill helped Orlando to come to America. Orlando earned degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Eastern Michigan University, and worked for Ford. Upon retirement from Ford he worked for Westinghouse Controls. Now he is truly retired and enjoys his hobby of Photography. Orlando and his family have been good friends of our family for many years. During the summer of 1999 he and his wife visited China. He took many photos, and printed them himself. He visited our office at the end of the year to present us with one of his favorite photos taken in China. That photo now hangs in our office.
